About Katie.

I am a residential building industry expert.  My unwavering ambition is to help as many families as possible create meaningful homes.  Homes that reflect owners' true essence while being developed with a conscious intention for connection.

With over 20 years of experience, I have had the great privilege of being involved in the design, documentation, contract administration and project management of over 200 successful custom homes or renovations.  Even as a fresh-faced 17-year-old straight out of school, I knew my destiny was to create amazing homes.  My architectural education commenced studying Architecture at Melbourne University before changing paths to a complete the Diploma of Building Design in 2002.

Without a minute to waste, I jumped headfirst into work with Michael O’Sullivan & Associates Design.  In 2006, the studio nationalised and re-emerged as Vibe Design Group, at the same time advancing me to the role of Director and Senior Designer.

2018 saw the launch of my own studio, Katie Rees Design.  With a family of my own, I'd developed a deep appreciation for the impact homes can have on how we live and connect with our loved ones every day, an appreciation I had the burning desire to share with the world.  But the reality of managing a studio as a sole practitioner meant many worthy inquirers were turned away due to limited capacity.

For as long as I can remember, tales of woe and building horror stories have flooded our schoolyard and dinner party conversations.  I couldn't stand it any longer; enough was enough; it was time to do something about it.  Building a new custom home or undertaking a major reno needn't be a horrific or banking-busting exercise when it's instigated correctly from the get-go.  And so was born the Home Build Mentoring program.  A custom one-on-one solution to ensure that no homeowner needs to walk that treacherous path alone ever.

I am a proud wife and mother to three beautiful daughters and reside in Melbourne, Victoria.  My life-long love of dance and the arts is still well and truly alive.  I am passionate about creating a caring world where every person has a safe and happy place to call home.
